ELD / System 44 - Period 4

English Language Learners come to California schools from all over the world, and from within California. They come with a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds, experiences with formal schooling, levels of native language and English literacy, immigrant experiences, and socioeconomic levels, as well as other experiences in the home, school, and community.

 

English Language Development (ELD) is designed to help English Learners (ELs) learn and acquire English to a level of proficiency (e.g., advanced) that maximizes their capacity to engage successfully in academic studies taught in English.
