6th Grade AVID - Mr. Snyder

Course Description

AVID is a fourth- through twelfth-grade system to prepare students in the academic middle for four-year college eligibility.  It has a proven track record in bringing out the best in students, and in closing the achievement gap.  AVID stands for Advancement via Individual Determination

The AVID curriculum, based on rigorous standards, was developed by middle and senior high school teachers in collaboration with college professors.  It is driven by the WICOR method, which stands for writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading.

This year, our motto for the class will be “Be Great Today!”  Students will have very high expectations.  In order to stay in AVID, student must maintain a minimum of a 2.0 GPA and abide by the class and school norms.  One of the perks about being in AVID is that we will be visiting various colleges throughout the school year.  In order to participate, students must have all C’s or higher (any D or F in a class and the student may not attend a fieldtrip).  Students will sign an AVID contract in the next couple of weeks.  Let's have a great year!
